Nicole Alfred, a sophomore at Rancho Cucamonga High in California, won the opening heat of the Division 1 girls competition at the CIF-Southern Section prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Alfred covered the 2.93-mile course in 18:30.6 to lead four Rancho Cucamonga scorers in the top six and five athletes in the top 20 to triumph with 32 points.
