Seniors Juan Chantaca, Rory Catsimanes and Grant Sestak from San Clemente High in California finished fifth, sixth and seventh place overall in the opening heat of the Division 1 boys competition at the CIF-Southern Section prelims at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Chantaca covered the 2.93-mile layout in 15:49.7, with Catsimanes and Sestak both clocking 15:49.8, as the Tritons had five scorers in the top 10 to prevail with 37 points.
