WALNUT — The CIF-Southern Section Prelims cross country meet is more often about not screwing up a section finals bid than it is about going all out.
It didn’t look like senior Tori Dutchover and her Yucaipa teammates completely bought into that thinking Saturday morning.
Dutchover won her Division 1 heat and led the Thunderbirds to a team victory at Mt. San Antonio College, as Yucaipa joined both teams from Temecula Great Oak and Riverside Woodcrest Christian, as well as Big Bear’s girls and Fontana Jurupa Hills’ boys as Inland team winners.
The top teams and individuals moved on to next week’s CIF-SS Finals, which are also contested at Mt. SAC and serve as the qualifying meet for the state championships Thanksgiving weekend in Fresno.
Dutchover ran the 3-mile course in 17 minutes, 59 seconds and said afterward that she’s beginning to feel like things are coming together. She was one of three Inland individual winners along with Woodcrest Christian’s Marissa Thompson (18:57) in Division 5 and Eastvale Roosevelt’s Branden Randall (15:10) in Division 1.
